Looking for an authentic lunch spot? Family-run Amy’s Banh Mi in Hampton is gaining a reputation for its "A to Z" homemade bread and traditional Vietnamese fillings. After 15 years in the local fishing industry, the Diep family has traded the sea for the storefront, offering everything from crusty pork banh mi to sweet condensed milk coffee. Open for takeout Tuesday through Sunday on North Armistead Avenue. |
Hampton University has launched the Tyrod Taylor Strive Academy, boosting its focus on hands-on, practical education for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Located at Harbour Centre in downtown Hampton, the academy is part of the university’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, offering students real-world experience, mentorship, and makerspaces.
NFL quarterback and local native Tyrod Taylor leads as the first entrepreneur-in-residence, inspiring students to chase ambitious business dreams.
The program provides certificates in booming fields like culinary arts, tech, and fashion, plus opportunities such as Pirate Valet, a student-run campus transport service.
Dynamic speaker events bring accomplished alumni and industry experts to campus, enriching the educational journey.
The university now also offers an accelerated master’s in entrepreneurship, weaving Strive Academy experiences into an innovative four-year degree track.

Looking for something fun and free this weekend? The Hampton History Museum is hosting Exploration Day this Saturday with free admission all day. Visitors can enjoy hands-on activities, costumed interpreters, and interactive exhibits. Learn how sailors once navigated by the stars, explore Hampton’s connection to NASA and the space race, and hear behind-the-scenes stories from three generations of museum curators.

Hampton Carousel |
Looking for a little nostalgia on the waterfront? The Hampton Carousel is one of Hampton’s most charming historic attractions. Built in 1920 for Buckroe Beach Amusement Park, this beautifully restored wooden carousel is now located near the Hampton History Museum downtown.
The ride features 48 hand-carved wooden horses, vintage oil paintings, mirrors, and music from a 1914 band organ. Even better, it’s still one of the best deals around.
